Got An Interview At A Guitar Shop

So yeah I got an interview Thursday at 1PM at a guitar shop. I worked at a guitar shop once and I just gave an application and started a week later without any interview.

I'm wondering what I should expect from this interview. Any tips or anything? This would be a kick ass job, the place is not the best guitar shop in the world but the people there are just awsome. They are mostly a fender shop which is nice. They have an original tweed in the back that they let the people who work there play.

On my application I put "anything" and they know me because I'm in there a lot. Plus my old guitar teacher put in a good word for me there. He told me they usually start off at about $8.50 for people they know which would be amazing for me!!

Any help?

Having worked in a guitar shop for a while, one thing that annoys the crap out of myself and the shop owner are people who act like they are more knowledgeable then they actually are. I'm not saying that you don't have guitar knowledge, because I don't know you - but keep that in mind. Be extremely honest and humble. Humility is always a great quality to show in an interview of any kind. Also, just talk with the guy/girl! Chat about the guitars you own, what music you are into and what-not.

Congrats and the best of luck!

The guy I'm interviewing with is a PJ fan too. I overheard him saying that he saw them in Boston. I just don't know how to start the conversation. Should I wear my green disease t-shirt? lol

Just be yourself. Thats the only advice I could give for any job interview.

Oh and if you get it, discount? Good luck!

Never been there, but I'll have to check it out. I'm getting kind of sick of going to Guitar Center for everything. Even though they are the only place around that seems to have Gibsons.

They usually ask you a few questions about gear.....

Essentially, you want to qualify the customer find out what they want and how much they want to spend as soon as possible, that targets what you should sell them, then show them the best example of what they can afford maybe a little bit more if there are no really good options in your opinion in their price range.

wait until you are in a room with 357 amplifiers and 1200 guitars 90% of which have crappy strings and are out of tune, with a symphony of would be Randy Rhodeses and a loud vaccum from the store tech 20ft from your ear, then my friend, then is when you will plead for no Crazy Train.

  • Just got back

Was about a 15 minute interview

Basically a one way interview. He just talked about what he does and what I would be doing. I asked small talk questions like...how long have you been working here? what type of bands are you in?

I think it went well. I should have a call by early next week.
