Ukulele

I was looking into getting a new guitar like instrument.
I was thinking of a ukulele because its easy to travel with and just sit on a beach and play, and it seems simple enough to play with. (By the way, is there a whole new system I need to know about playing a Uke?). My question was does anyone know of a good priced Uke that I could plug into my amp and play. If not, does anyone have an idea of what is a good uke? I'm looking in the 100$ range. Nothing crazy. Unlike the one that I saw on here that looked like Eds that was 1300$, haha.
I was thinking of Mandolin too, but I don't know. My friend is in a band and he playes DISTORTED Mandolin. It sounds amazing!

haha
And of course why not try one of those add-on portable acoustic guitar pickups for like $45 i think they run. I forget the actual name.
hope that's helpful
by the way - the washburn is ideal for me at work very portable, nice case, people think I'm carrying around a gun though.
