How come on strats (I do it as well) do people take off the back white plate??? does it give you a better sound?
the only reason i have mine done is because my uncle onced asked "hows that strat working out for you? maybe ill give you my tele one day, just make sure you have that plate off on your strat"

  • Hendrix did it because it made it easier to change strings. His tech would change his strings while Jimi kept playing.

"I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version." - EV

that and the fact this is jimi hendrix we are talking about
  • I am no acoustic genius but it seems to me it would lower the sustain of the guitar. I mean, it makes an escape route for vibration. Unless the plastic plate has the property of being an exceptionally good vibration dampener, then it would increase vibration overall in the guitar.

I think alot of poeple have the plate off to
    1. make string change quicker (as opposed to top loading bridges)
    2. adjust the tension of the trem.
Dont take drugs and be a loser
wear a pink shirt and go down the boozer
  • i took my off to adjust the trem never put it back again.Doesnt have any affect on the sustain to my ears
    Cornell pwns u
  • It does help with changing strings, even if the plate has a slot cut for that. Gives better access. And the tremolo springs are back there, so it gives you quick access to those as well. I think most people take it off once to do something back there and leave it off... one of those things where everyone else does it, why not me? I kept the plate on my old Strat... no particular reason, I just did. It's really a personal-preference thing.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • because it's annoying as fuck to take it on and off with the screwdriver everytime a string pops.

also it has no real purpose... it's like that appendix of the strat ;)
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

I leave mine on, just because I like the look of it better with it on.
