Has anyone ever done this or played a guitar with scalloped frets?
I personally would never do it but I was just wondering bceause a friend of mine is doing it.
It's supposed to allow you to bend a lot easier and you don't have to hit the notes as hard at all.

My friend just baught a cheap '83 Kramer ZX30 for only $80 so he is doing it to the last 5 frets
Yeah I saw Yngwie last year...i noticed it, he has his whole fretboard scalloped which is NUTS
Richie Blackmore does it too
Or do you?

i don't think you have to hit the notes hard at all on a non-scalloped neck. i can see how it would make bending easier though.
i think that, if someone didn't have a light touch, they'd be more out of tune with the scalloped neck because they'd still be fretting hard.
I'm guessing that higher gauge strings and higher action would be necessary to avoid that...
Scalloped fretboards are signs of wankery, along with bright yellow paint jobs and sharkfin inlays.

his scalloping the frets were the first I'd ever heard of this being done. I agree with the above sentiment...being practiced enough to play 1000 notes a minute does not make one a good guitarist. if you want to see how bad he is, go on youtube and watch him playing through blues scales. it's his same old crap, 1000 notes per minute on a BLUES scale. it was really funny to watch. BB King could play 3 bent notes and blow Malmsteen off a stage.
I used to reallly be into Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, Johnson. All those shred guys.
Now I look at it and find it so freakin' boring it's not even funny.
Oh, and you can guy these:
