My Neck Pickup

So today and even yesterday I noticed something in my sound that is awkward.

On my SG there is a bridge open-coil humbucker as well as a neck open-coil humbucker. I noticed that if I switch to use both pickups or just the neck pickups the sound gets much more bassy than usual. It sounds almost like if you turned the tone knob down on your guitar. Any ideas on why? what? how? etc etc etc

Since the neck pickup is further up the string, the vibrations are much more pronounced there. This means the string is actually vibrating more above the neck pickup than at the bridge. The neck pickup will therefor pick up more of the bass frequencies, so the neck pickup (or both together) will have more bass than the bridge pickup alone.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

It's not the height of the pickup, it's the position of the pickup on the length of the string, between the bridge and the nut. The neck pickup is further up the string's length where the vibration is more pronounced.

That's an uncommon thing to just show up one day... it could be a lot of things. Have you tried different amps, no pedals, etc?

you should hear the volume spike on my new casino with the neck pickup. it's insane. i've got it turned down to about 6 to match the bridge.

Maybe the pickup moved up OR the bridge p/u sank down.
