My bad about assuming that Nels was with the band during the recording of the last album. However on Wilco's site, in the photo section I believe there is a photo of Tweedy's pedal board.
http://www.wilcoworld.net/photos/index.php
Scroll through until you find the pedal board picture tha contains Lovetone's Big Cheese, which might be the pedal he is using for the fuzz sound on ALTWYS.And if hope could grow from dirt like me, it can be done0 -

It appears that he is using the Z Vex Fuzz Factory for that sound in "At Least That's What You Said" or some combination of his other fuzz/distortion pedals: 4 to be exact.

cool that's the site I was trying to remember. Thanks.
Trouble is, the love tone big cheese if you can find one costs a gigantic pile of money now.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

dont worry about it. ive never heard of a big cheese. are they any good?"What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -
after screwing around on the z vex site, I've fallen in love with the fuzz factory.
the thing is, should i get the expensive hand painted one, or the "vexter" series one? is there a difference in tone, or just the looks?"What’s Orphans? I don’t know. just the looks, unless you're crazy about paint, go with the vexter. The silk screen looks pretty cool anyway.

yeah, and plus all that stomping on a work of art would make me nervous."What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -
sorry for all the questions, but -
whats up with that Mid Fi glitch computer? It sounds pretty sick and nels cline uses one."What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -

Does the LED on the vexter affect the tone? And if hope could grow from dirt like me, it can be done0 -
OHH. And the Big Cheese kicks some major ass, but it has always been out of my price range.

Check out the link and listen to the sample. And if hope could grow from dirt like me, it can be done0 -
Another OHH. I just converted the pounds to dollars to see how much a Cheese Source, a Big Cheese and Brown Source combined is, and it comes out at over $525!!!!!!
Or here is a Big Cheese on eBay with the starting bid at $350.

no, I would assume it's true bypass. If it effected the tone, Zvex would not put it in there, however the Zvex forum might be the place to ask, Zach could answer that himself better than I can.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" Although I don't know what sound you're referring to, I would recommend that you try out a visual sound Dr Jekyl/Mr. Hyde overdrive/distortion pedal. Quality pedal and very versatile. My other guitarist in my band has one and it sounds great. I've also wanted to try the Marshall Shredmaster, which was supposed to be a Marshall half-stack in a pedal. I don't personally know how good that one sounds though."I had a false belief I thought I came here to stay... we're all just visiting."0

Zvex FF is a pedal for messing with, not playing with. You will never duplicate any sound from it, unless you have a polariod camera and notepad and even then I can have problems duplicating noise.
It sounds like you need a Lovepedal and the one I would recomend would be the BlackMagic Distorion, give Sean a shout and tell him I sent you. It is a wicked pedal for sure if you are into high gain.
If you want Big Muff and who doesn't, don't buy an EH pedal. Get a Rams Head clone and get a Skreddy pedal they are just sick. Everyone should have an ernie and a zero.
For crazy octave and fuzz stuff you should check out the CAF from BJF, the Octave Planet Pro from Lovepedal. One is based on the green ringer and Bj;s is just insane, it the only nasty pedal he makes.
If you are into high gain again run and check out the blackmagic, it is all that and more.WHAT IS THAT NOISE?

I'm actually pretty much looking for something that sounds fucked up and hard to duplicate currently, but thanks for the other recomendations.
it's pretty much between the Fuzz Factory and the Mid Fi Glitch Computer right now. they are both around 150$"What’s Orphans? I don’t know. The vexter FF will get you there for that price and if you want crazy I wouldn't look any further.

hey thanks for all the settings. im pretty excited about this pedal. it seems pretty sick."What’s Orphans? I don’t know. Orphans is a dead end kid driving a coffin with big tires across the Ohio River wearing welding goggles and a wife beater with a lit firecracker in his ear." - Tom Waits0 -
As far as the SD9 what is the optimal setting to get that "Alive" tone? Thanks"i wanna rock and roll **all night**, and part of everyday"0
