Met Ed last night- The follow up

I’m back.. been a really busy last few days.
I went to the cubs game on Wednesday as part of a work function. We were in the Batters Eye (like a skybox in the center field bleachers). A co-worker of mine and I decide to walk around the bleachers. On our way back in about the 4th inning I see a guy with a blue Cubs hard hat, cubs jacket and dark rimmed eye glasses. Nobody is around at all, then I notice he is with Liam Finn and I’m 100% sure it’s him. So, I’m just totally stoked to have seen him period.
Around the 7th inning we decide to go back out to hear Ed sing the stretch, when we get out to the RF bleachers he is standing there, signing some things, etc. Very casual, he is not getting mobbed or anything. My co-worker (not a big PJ fan) says he is going up to get something signed and I should come. I am half nervous, and in all honesty a little leery of meeting my personal idol, hero, etc.. So I decline, and when he is over there.. my co-worker makes a motion to come over. I hear him say to EV ‘here he is’.. He turns, I shake his hand , tell him how much I admire him and appreciate him and that I will see him tomorrow (Chicago 1)night. He says “oh you are going?” I say yes, he says something to the effect of “if you hear anyone screaming in the crowd stomp ‘em down’ I say I will. And that is the end of it.. so I think.
I go back down to the Batter’s Eye.. totally beaming, texting, calling anyone close to me to tell them about it.. and in the meantime the woman who is hosting the event gets word that EV is outside.. She grabs a camera, and my co worker and says , I wanna get a photo with him.. At this point I’m kinda cringing because I’d assume this is a little too overbearing. So I stay down there with about 15-20 other people and watch the game.
About 5 mns later—EV, LIAM,EJ, JESSE (security) COME INTO THE BOX AND SIT DOWN 5 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. So, I’m shitting myself at this point. There are a few pictures taken of Ed, with other people in the box. Then he is sitting with EJ and Liam just talking. So I start talking to Jesse –great guy- and I’m just saying how pumped I am. And not only am I going to both solo shows but have been to like 30 PJ shows.. Then Liam comes over, I say “Liam, I’m a fan looking forward to seeing you tomorrow” shake his hand, and start talking to EJ just about the skybox and she asks if I’ll be there in time to see her and Liam. Etc.. Then EV walks over, I say something like “man, I was sooo nervous to approach you” I’m not entirely sure what he said back, but, I just started talking to him normally.. I said, “man, I heard there were some issues last night in Milwaukee that sucks- I grew up in milwaukee’ he said, “f’in Milwaukee” then he stopped and said it was a few assholes ruining it for everyone. He said he had a feeling that might happen there and that they had discussed playing Madison, wi instead. He said the tickets were expensive and a lot of the crowds didn’t understand that it wasn’t a rock show, but a one man acoustic show. I’ve never met him before but, I would guess he was a little disappointed.
So like 3-4 just keep having small talk, cubs, Wrigley, Chicago, and I tell him that I saw the VH-1 show again last night and how I thought they just killed it. Then he says “ahh, so you really are a fan” I say something like “ I have spent way too much money on you guys over the years”. Shakes my hand. Pours half of his room temperature Old Style into mine.. Tells me he has 1 guitar pick left that was going to be for Kerry Wood and then gives it to me, and also, without me asking signs a MOD sticker for me.
And that was it. Said goodbye to everyone, and me and my co worker left. Saw Ed and his group leaving behind us as we left. Proceeded to try and drink Lake Michigan dry after that..
It was really surreal. I am sorry I didn’t ask any questions about the plans for the rest of ’08, it really seemed like a normal conversation to me and didn’t wanna break the flow. Plus, I’m pretty sure he was drunk and I know I was.
Sorry for rambling, it was just a really good experience couple with last night’s show.. I’m bubbling right now.
Hopefully I see you uncultured bastards tonight!! (chicago1 attendees should get that one)

Wow, you are really lucky. Good for you. Awesome story. P.S. I would have drank the beer as well.Underneath this smile lies everything...All my hopes, anger, pride and shame...make myself a pact, not to shut doors on the past just for today,... I am free.0

I wonder if he pisses in all those beers he pours into peoples glasses.

Haha that's awesome!“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”0 -
That is an great story. I can seriously relate about meeting celebrities - especially ones I really like. I think I would have gone and hid somewhere to save myself from saying something really stupid.0

That's awesome!
It seems like he didn't feel so good about their Rock Honors performance. If that's the case...he is very harsh critic of himself...b/c they fuckin' killed it."Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"0 -

fucking Ed! love how he has managed to keep his feet on the ground and remain humble not being consumed by his own celebrity.
how many bands take the time to reciprocate the love we give them like PJ?!
