Jeffs signature slide sound

can anyone tell me the tecnique on how to get that slide jeff does then pings like you hear on the mother love bone album and on ten

    Firstly - a fretless bass is essential. Jeff uses harmonics and then slides (especially noticeable at the start of Even Flow)

    Not to be a dick, but you probably have to buy a fretless. Harmonic slides are next to impossible on a fretted bass (unless I suck more than I think). You might be able to pull it off on an 8- or 12-string, but I bet you'd have to buy one of those too ;)

    I had the frets filed down to the fingerboard on my first bass (crappy cheap ply thing). Gets the fretless sound okay, but the harmonics slide still doesn't work.

    Hit the harmonic then bend the string behind the nut, wont get u that high pitched but it will still give the bending harmonic thing

    thanks guys just messing round with it on my acuostic for now gonna try out the electric now im getten nice harmonic tones but cant really master how he slides and gets the harmonics
