...what are some good companies that make Tele's? I want an American Deluxe Tele but it's out of my price range right now...and I want to know if I can get a copy for cheaper. I'll probably end up buying a Standard MIM, but let's give this a try. I love everying about this Tele. Cherry Sunburst, Maple board, binding, pearl pickguard.
So let's hear it...

Have you checked Ebay for a used one. That cuts some good dollars out!

I've never had any problems. Just have to watch who your buying it from and what there track record is. Make sure you pay with Paypal, that will help you out. I understand the concerns and I was too, but I've had good luck. Sure there are always horror stories you know.

Tokai used to make a nice tele. I think it was called the silver bullet.

Or you could go with USA Custom Guitars or Warmoth. and build it yourself or have a local luthier do it.
Everything else is likely out of your range.
If you're looking for schecters like Ed's though you can get a diamond sieries PT easily in your range, or you can get a Carvin T60 for maybe 600 with a few options.
Tokai's look great! What do they cost around? I can't find them on the net
Warmoth - http://www.warmoth.com official licensed fender parts and you'll need to pick a luthier or assemble yourself.

http://www.stewmac.com and http://www.callahamguitars.com for parts.
other than that, Don Grosh, Melencon, Tom Anderson, Schecter, John Suhr, Pensa......Lentz, to some extent Callaham, though he kind of builds one type. Bill Nash only goes to dealers now. and so on and so forth.
