Guitar Problems

My friend/band member's guitar is messed up and I was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong.

The low E and A strings seem to be distorted, even when he is playing through a clean channel.

Anyone know of any possible symptoms

(I know it's the guitar, not the amp or pedals)

  • What kind of guitar?

Is this a recent problem (fine before, but now it's wrong)?

Hard to say... could be a string vibration problem, a pickup problem, a wiring problem, an amp/FX problem...
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • the problem might not actually be with the guitar itself...

first thing you want to do is test the guitar in a different amp than he normally does

then....if the guitar sounds fine....try a different guitar through that amp...

if the amp still gives the same kind of problem (if it is in fact the amp)

i'm going to guess that it would be a grounding problem on the power controller in the amp itself and could run you between $50 to $125 to fix depending on where you take it and if you know anyone at your local music/repair shop

  • It is not the amp, we have already checked that. It is the low 2 strings that make a very over distorted sound. I'm guessing it's the pickups, but I dont know.
  • by the way, its a epiphone sg special
