Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer and the fulltone Distortion pro (Mike and Stone have used it differently). Mike has also used the Fender Blender Fuzz/Octave and various overdrive pedals.

  • Plus a Keeley modded Boss Blues Driver. But your best bet to start off with is a nice tube amp. A big source of their sound is their Trentino amps, but good luck getting one of those..

  • We are talking studio not live correct?

The crunch on the whole album is not from the TS9 or a Fender Blender (which Mike hasn't used since 2000) or a Distortion Pro which Mike only used once during Easy Street...its from the their amps...Mike used a Trentino amp along with a Marshall plexi head (used for instudio playing as seen in Life Wasted video on Amazon when it was there)....The other source is the Keeley Boss BD-2, which Mike has been using a lot of it recently...

Stone has been using the overdrive of his Marshall 1974x live, but I know he used that amp for the studio as well, so he could have set a crunch tone to the amp

Everyone's tone...Ed, Mike, Stone, Jeff is based from their tube amps, which makes a huge difference if you are using a solid state....I made the switch a little over a year ago and I'm proud I did so, best move I have ever made

I'm loving the tones from everyone on the Pistoia show this year, everything sounds heavy but not too heavy...Their tones sounded amazing during Reading as well!

Word. Ibanez doesn't make the SD anymore, but you can grab a Maxon SD9 (the company that made the original Ibanez pedals anyway).

  • TS-9 is amazing. My friend has one and gets the same tone with it as Mike does in State of Love and Trust

  • Drive should be cranked, the tone should be somwhere around 10 and 2 o'clock (depending on what type of sound you want). The level is adjustable to your comfort

  • main source is still the amps for these guys. they use overdrive/distortion pedals for lead boosts, but they (or thier techs) do alot of A/B switching between there amps. Especially with this new fender kick going on with them. it just seems natural to every fender owner to have two combos, a clean one, and a dirty one.

Stone didn't really start using the overdrive on the 74x until he got to Europe, and his tone sounds fantastic. I think everyone's tone became amazing once they got to Europe (except Ed). Mike's tone from Reading is just stunning
