Jeff's Fretless Bass

Hey guys ive recently purchased a fretless bass, and i am not sure what strings i should use. I have heard not to use roundwounds too much as they cause the fretboard to wear, but apparently they give a brighter and more "rockier" sound. Flatwounds do not wear the fretboard as much but im not sure of how it would sound. I'm really after a fretless tone similar to jeff's that is used in songs like Alive, and Even Flow, so im wondering which strings does he uses?
