Harmonic slide? is that what it is called?

the bass player in my band asked me about it today...but I have no idea what it is and how he does it. Can anyone help me out?

If you mean right at the start afer the intro bit, i've always played it:

    G|- - 19\
    D|- - 19\
    A|- - -
    E|- - -

Slide down and off, but you have to experiment with how quickly. The reason it sounds like it does is because Jeff plays Even Flow on his fretless.

For the bit before the chorus i play:

    G|- - - - - - - - - | - - - -
    D|- - - - - - - - - | - - - -
    A|- 5 3 - - - - - - | - - - 5/
    E|- - - 6 5 3 0 3 5 | - 0 0 -

Slide up and off, and again it's the fretless that makes the sound, but i'm not 100% about that second bit.
  • ^^ yep. With a fretless bass you can play a harmonic and slide it around on the neck.
Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..

  • There really isn't a way to recreate this sound, only way to do so is a fretless
