playing record player through computer..how?

how do you do this. I have a pre-amp and audio imports (numerous) on my sony viao. Do need a special program? Help needed?

    Well, if you have a preamp, all you need is a cable to get from the RCA jacks on your preamp to the 1/8" stereo mini jack on the line-in of your computer. Radio Shack should have it.
    ...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
