of shit....

I'm sure I told all of you about alot of my gear being stolen a while back...like in the middle of July. We'll its now almost the middle of September now and I have yet to receive a single penny from the insurance company. The suit and tie guy (as I call them) told me to go ahead and buy some of the stuff and they would re-imburse me after I got them.....which leads me to my next story.

On August 5th I purchased a set of new in ear monitors from a seller on E-bay for over $700 US. After over two weeks of waiting for them the seller FINALLY contacts me and tells me that they got re-routed back to them because my address was incorrect....yeah, probably because of their incompitence to being able to write down a number correctly....I've never had a problem with shipping before. So they say they are going to resend it and for me to let them know when I receive it....this was over 3 weeks ago!!....and they won't return a single one of my e-mails. Like holy shit, and paypal only offers coverage of UP TO $500 and only within the first 30 days since the purchase.....so basically I'm screwed, but I got the S.O.B.'s phone number off E-bay and I might have to send it to every porn site on the internet if they don't cooperate.

So basically I have gotten no money from the insurance company, this E-bay seller is a deadbeat and I am gaining interest on about $3000 that I put on my line of credit for something that I never should have paid for in the first place.....oh yeah, and the show I was supposed to play this weekend got double booked because of the owners stupity...so I am out $300 for that as well.

Moral of the story:
Lawers SUCK
E-bay sellers CAN suck
Bar owners Suck.

Any input you guys can give me about the E-bay problem would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and Mojorison_75....I checked out both the Boss TU-2 and the Korg DT10 pedals and I decided to go with the Korg DT10 for these reasons.
1. It is sturdier on the floor and moves around less (I have no pedalboard)
2. Easier to read that the TU2 (I found)
3. Was 10 bucks cheaper.
4. Has marshall style footswitch (and thats what I play through)

I really like it, I will be gigging with it this weekend and I'll let you know how it holds up.

Thanks again for any input guys!

  • I've done a good bit of buying and selling on ebay and have always had really good luck. I guess the thing I should point out is that it's just that - luck. Overall ebaying is pretty safe, but the potential for getting screwed is definately there. I always look at a sellers feedback pretty carefully before I bid. Feedback is a great system but still not 100% fool proof.

Ebay is a great source for musicians, so I wouldn't advise giving up just yet. A fair bit of caution does have to be exercised though. I've only made a few large purchases off of there and I sweated like hell over them. While I'm glad I bought them there now, I could see that opinion changing pretty quickly the first time I get burned for a few hundred bucks.

You should contact Ebay and Paypal. Usually they help.

As for the INS co, this depends on lots of stuff.
I sold INS for 10 years so I can probably help you, but I need all the specifics.

Also who is your carrier? If it is a Tier1 company like State Farm or Allstate chances are you fight to get paid and then get dropped. Then you will never get re-inssured unless you are willing you pay a ton of cash. You should do some math and figure out how much you are really out and what it is worth in the long haul.

Well, the insurance company is going to replace all of my stolen stuff....its just that I have already been waiting for almost 2 months. The funny (I'm not laughing) thing about it is that I bought the system from E-bay and the insurance company is giving me money for it to re-imburse me for the one that got stolen....and now I am getting ripped off from E-bay as well, so basically I am losing out twice.

I guess I am missing something. How did you use paypal? Did you use a credit card? If so, just contact VISA or AMEX and they will take care of everything and you wont get charged a dime until they complete their investigation.
Never buy anything with a check or money order, you have no power or control. Ebay is going to have to investigate your loss. If you paid with a check and it was cashed and you have no goods or services for the money, then sue. Small claims is the only way to get your cash. It will cost you another $150, but its worth it.
As for the INS, it sounds like you already have that taken care of.

For what it is worth, get an AMEX card. They will insure all transactions regardless of the amount. I had a guy walk on 50K and they took care of it, no questions asked.
