i can scream yell whatever you like to call it (i learned the style of this from Ed if you want to know what kind). i can also sing. here are the problems...

When im screaming a lot i lose control of my higher pitches of singing - it just turns into more screaming. And if i try to retain it i can't reach the notes.

I also have a bit of trouble controlling the scream.

any suggestions?

practice. lessons. the only two things a vocalist can do.

getting rock vocal lessons can be helpful for some, an old singer of mine took them and the difference was incredible.

That's because you're ripping your voice up. control is developed through the proper use of breathing, and diaphragm support, as well as the absense of tension. Screaming is exactly opposite of those things.

Enjoy that voice while you have it. ;)

It's important to you and yet you wouldn't be willing to take lessons and pay for them? That seems odd to me.

  • use ur lungs and bring it out...i lead sing for a band

if you use ur lungs and gut instead of your throat you get a crisp tone that is so much different than from your throat and u can reach certain notes

The distorted sound (for most) is unnatural, and will throw you out. My guess is that you first need to learn how to sing before you can learn to scream. Control needs to be learnt, and trying to scream without the proper know how and foundation built up will throw you all over the place and be hard to manage. This is the guy I am currently taking lessons from http://www.voicelesson.com

There are alot of helpful hints and do's and don't on this website....check it out.

This is very good advice...I'm still a beginner, but if you keep screaming like that without knowing what you are doing, you're just going to screw up your voice and damage it. You need to learn how to control your breath and tone before you learn how to scream--it's not something you can "learn" by listening to other singers. Get lessons.
