singing in key

if my song is in key of F# shall i sing all the notes in the key of f# or just follow the riff

    It depends on the song and the chord progression. Writing a melody is easy...writing a good melody is not.

    Experiment. Take the time to figure out which notes (voice) go well with the notes that are being played on the guitar. Don't be afraid to try different things, scrap them and start over. Certainly there are notes (voice) that will just not "sound right" over a certain guitar part...but alot of times that is how you come up with unique and individualistic ideas.
