Do I need a gate pedal?

Hello all,

Ok, here's what my setup will be like in two weeks when my line6 stuff comes, about the only thing I might add is a whammy pedal, but I'm still not sure. Here's the signal path that I was thinking of going with...

Guitar---wah---ts9---mm4---dl4---volume/pan---tuner---'73 Bassman10

I've always put my wah before my distortion, but I'm not sure where to put the new line6 stuff. I know that's off topic, but should they go first then the rest? I was thinking of getting this gate pedal next, before the whammy...

But I'm not sure if I need a gate or not...I'm assuming that with all the pedals, it would get rid of any hiss....

any advice appreciated. : )

Don't buy it until after you get everything set up first to see if you need it. The MXR looks like a good one if you do need it.

based on that pedal chain, it won't be necessary. the only thing that is going to make any appreciable noise when not playing is the TS9.

Most of the noise makers are the older analog types.

or anything made by Electro Harmonix.

Excellent. Thank you for the advice. Now, about my chain, where should I put the two line6 units? Or will it matter? Or is it like the wah---distortion vs. distortion---wah thing...just a matter of preference?

That's cool. I'll do some experimenting, hopefully soon.

It's everything I ever needed. Ditched a whole bunch of effects pedals for this mutha. I play through a Mesa Pre-amp and Power-amp rack combination and the GT-6 gives me everything I need. The quality of effects are as good as any and the models of some of the effects I already have are spot on.

I wouldn't bother with individual effects anymore - too much chance of fucking up. My band play loads of covers and need tons of sounds. http://www.myuglyfriend.co.uk if you're interested.

I use a lot of different guitars but the GT-6 is ideal with any of them. I would definitely recommend checking out this unit before spending a forune on individual pedals. The tubescreamer model on it is actually nicer than the actual tubescreamer I have! The wahs are so much more versatile than the Dunlop 535 I have too - I used to be totally phobic of such units until I tried one - go on have a go! At worst you'll be very impressed.
