When I bought my tele from Long and McQuade, the guitar tech there swapped my bridge and set everything up. I'm thinking that when I decide to get my sg, I can send them the fralins and they can do the body and pickguard routing. I'm getting black soapbar covers, but I have no idea which "leads" to get.

don't do pickguard routing, that looks like shit. Get a custom pickguard. The pickguard covers the crap. The lindy fralin site should help you with the leads.
    also try
    http://www.pickguards.com for your pickguard.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I looked around there for info about which lead does what, no luck. I emailed pickguards.com about the guard and if I need to send them a tracing or not.

I just got standard Gibson-style braided leads.

I'm probably going to WD (pickguards.com) for my next custom job... I hear they're a pain to deal with sometimes, but they do decent work. Good luck...

Here's another option for reference and comparison.

Thanks, pure, I hadn't seen this site before.

I' was looking for a P-90 to put into my Les Paul because I love the neck. Those Z-90's should be perfect.

Your welcome, sometimes its more economical for me getting things done on the west coast than the east coast.

Good luck on your modification. I had the Z's put into the Les Paul I traded away.

so you liked them just not the weight. cool. After the strat, I think that will be on the dockett. If I don't trade for an SG. Even so I'll probably do the same thing.

The z's gave the les paul more of a prs heavy sound. This was ok with me because I could switch between the les paul and my SG.

I, personally wouldn't use these on an SG.

Yes, it really was all about the weight. It was probably just a mental thing, but I never could adjust to it.

    Too heavy or too light?

I hate guitars that are too light, I love having a good, solid guitar slung over my shoulder. But I fear I'm in the minority...

The Fender TeleSonic and the Epiphone '57 (RI) Les Paul I owned were the two most comfortable weights, and they were pretty porky. Heavier guitars tend to have a bit meatier tone, and just feel good and solid on your body. The worst guitars, IMO, are the cheap Korean Squier Strats that weigh hardly anything... they feel cheap (for many reasons) and I'm always afraid they're going to fall apart in my hands.

As a bass player, my playing style is standing. I can stand for hours and play, whether I put it across my waist or take it across my thighs doesn't matter.

I found that particular Les Paul too heavy for me. I changed body postions, padded strap, but the weight never was comfortable for me. At a 1/4 in shy of 5' 8", it shouldn't have been a problem.

I didn't have the same problem with my other guitars. So rather than risk hurting my arm playing a guitar I only used for recording I traded it.

Someone will get a damn good guitar and I will have preserved my arm, shoulder and back.

You are right about the sound, with the z-90s there was nothing left to guess when you played. And no, your not in the minority. This particular guitar was just not right for me.

I'm thinking what you had was a custom if I remember correctly. To my memory, those always seem to be the heaviest. Regardless the trade you got for that stuff was impossible to pass up.

Besides the thought of you playing one of those modulus's in a black leather skirt is just to good to pass up. ;) It was a good trade all around.

I bet you'd probably dig the weight of the Smartwoods or a PRS McCarty if you do need another one.

Please don't because weight is important. This particular guitar was a custom for someone else. It was free to me. In this case, the weight was a problem. I do have another Les Paul and I do not have the weight problem. But then again, I rarely play it because its right-handed.

The world has enough guitar players as it is. The bassist is the most important member of the band. Might as well just jam on the bass.

The good thing is, I don't consider myself a guitar player. I can play the guitar.

I have respect for the instrument, thus why hold on to something that someone else can benefit from.

On the other hand, the right-handed one, is also custom and signed by the owner, it ain't going nowhere unless I desperately need a large sum of money.

good call. with the buddies you have and the deals they got, there's no reason to put it up unless you really need to.

    Speaking of Modulus...

I just found a Genesis by Modulus guitar in a pawn shop here. They want like $1200 for it, but it's in amazing shape and sounds good (at least through a Peavey practice amp they had in-house). It's a strat-style, 3 single-coil pups. Pretty cool... I'd never heard of a Modulus guitar before that.

To all who helped, thanks for the advice. Guitar buying plans are put on hold for now, but now I have a better idea of where I have to go for when I do mod the SG...

And I've decided to get the SG next summer or spring. Going to save up now and depending on my job, I will either get the strat in october or next spring. If it's next spring then the sg gets bumped up to summer/fall. Just incase anybody was curious.
