You can't always get what you want... (gear related)

But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need!! (long story short)

Well, another year of law school is upon us. Being the loving husband that I am, I took the responsibility of making sure my wife had money for her books($800) and to get the year started. This meant I had to make some sacrifices. Namely, the new R6 and Bassman LTD out the door for cash. I returned the Bassman for the $1050 + tax I paid... and I sold the R6 for a small hit. The deal was that I would pay for the books, one of our debts, and then use the remaining money to find some lower priced replacements.

I wasn't thrilled about this, but it wasn't the end of the world.

Now, this left about $1300 for guitar and amp... a lot of money. But I just sold over $3,000 worth of guitar and amp... so my sites were set pretty high.

Looky what I found and won on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7341860083&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6

:D

Now to find an amp with my remaining $600 or so...

for the record I am not copying EV or PT because this guitar has a rosewood board. ;)

ouch. hopefully the PT works out for you. and i'm sure you can find a good little amp for 6 bills.

this is why i've been on a gear binge in the last month, once my baby's born, it's all over disposable income wise.

ooh, that was a bit of a hit but it'll be ok.

Cool geetar, you can change the pups soon too if they aren't to your liking.

How about a used, bassman, or a used ghia or a used Savage Macht 6.

look on the gear page, tell them your situation and see if there's some cool stuff there.

You could even go with one of those cool valvetronix's for a while or a duoverb for that change.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I will check out the pups, they are Tom Anderson designed (he and John Suhr were a part of Schecter back then) I will at least give them a shot... I was excited to catch a PT at that price.

I will look around for a good used amp. I found a Macht 6, but the guy had already unloaded it.

ah, cool didn't know about Suhr and Anderson, come to think of it, they look like andersons. I'd be suprised if there is no coil tap/ phase option on that thing.

to bad, the Macht 6 would be perfect. What about a 65 vibrochamp? or maybe some kind of BF Princeton?

The guitar has coil taps for each pup. It is pretty much like EVs from the Yield-Binaural era... just a rosewood board.

They do look just like the andersons.

For amps I am sure I will find something good. Take a look at this link... what do you think of this?

looks cool I'd feel better about a Kendrick or Clark, but it should be nice and full with the 12 and the price is right.

Yeah, I would feel like a bit of a guinnea pig... but how hard is a champ circuit to build?

There's always an older pro jr. and getting a speaker cab... those things can wail.

this is cool, but the Jensen is a better tweed speaker, I don't get the EV in that.

However note that it uses Orange Drops and the big blue caps like the high end guys do.

I think the Air tight garage and Weber both sell tweed era circuits.

he was selling that on TGP. Not a bad looking amp for sure... pretty high powered. I don't like how plain those EV speakers are... I prefer some coloration typically.

no kidding, it's a good candidate for a weber. I like the color too.

Well, I might just look for a used Bassman LTD. I bet there are people like me turning them around already... that was a nice amp for sure.

    for example:

I adore the LTD's. Maybe my favorite non botique amp at this time.

Fender is doing some stuff really right lately. Maybe they are actually listening.

I agree. I will likely end up in the Fender camp... although I keep my eyes peeled for the right el-84 amp. I have a weakness there.

Have you tried the custom classics yet? Or pehaps looked for a used Orange AD15?

Or, if you're feeling saucy, http://www.matamp.co.uk Oh how I love these things.

No, on the CCs... I am leary about the quality horror stories I have heard.

I have looked at Orange. Definitely a good choice for British tone.

I am tempted to try a Vox CC... if I got a good one I would like it.

I still think a Z Rx or Ghia would be up you alley. Or on the cheap Sovtek or an Ampeg Super Jet even possibly a 4x10 classic 50 or Fender Blues Deluxe with a better speaker.

Dear Fender, please start using Weber or better eminence speakers in your less expensive amps please, Thank you.

Excellent Job. Those things occasionaly go for 1000+. What a sweet deal on a potentially custom shop quality guitar.

Well I like the champ idea alot. Since lawschool is what forced you to give up the bassman, it makes sense to get a quieter amp like a champ. Perfect volume to not piss off your wife when she wants to study.

BTW what law school does she attend?

Why not watch for a Peavey Classic or Delta Blues? Get a Delta Blues 210 and upgrade the speakers, you'd have EL-84's and a little semi-Bassman mojo.

The other option is find a silverface Bassman head and get a little 1x12" or 2x12" Avatar cab, unless you're a combo guy.

Nice buy on the Schecter... as one Tele owner to another, fuck the folks who don't think Tele's have balls...
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

    mig, there's a mig 100 also at TGP, 425.

You never know when you might want 4 5881's :D Headroom.

I don't like headroom. I like edgy drive for my cleans, and the ability to send it over the top with my gain pedals. The Mig 100 is a great amp, just not for me. I would absolutely love to get a Mig 30, but they're almost impossible to find anymore... I watch eBay every once in a while, but no luck in about 2 years. And I'm still desperately trying to scam this '66 Deluxe Reverb. I would like to grab another Mig 50 or two... stereo if I want it, back-up if I need it.

My buddy still has a tube midget I was going to swipe from him but it's out on loan. Scam away at the 66 Deluxe.

Once I get the budget situation settled for the coming school year... then I can really know what kind of amp options I have.

Although if the right things were to come along, I may have to act on it. (I am known to do that... ;))

the main thing is that I want to find a giggable setup. I really want to start playing out again and hopefully with a band. That is the top musical priority.

I think the PT will be here next week. It will be even more telecaster goodness at my place.

That amp smokes. 2 tens no BS nothing to color. There is a good pedal for anything you'd want to do with it.

I had bid up to $700 on that amp... didn't meet the reserve.

It is tempting for sure. It definitely smokes. I always enjoyed my Ghia back in the day.

The reserve is probably above 9 sorry. Usually the combos are around 11 new I think.

I still want some kind of 6L6 or 6v6 amp but it's so far down on the priority list it'll be a while.

I'm sure the sacrifice means a lot to the wifey.

Somebody give me $1300... quick!! :D

This is a really good price on this amp.

In all seriousness: making the finances work is very important to domestic peace... I am sure JofZ can attest to that. So, my "sacrifice" of only having two electric guitars, two amps, and an acoustic isn't so bad. ;)

But really, who has $1300 for the hiwatt?
