I Am a Patriot

In honor of the memories from a 2003 tour that are forever tattooed on my heart and mind, I thought I'd dig into Patriot a little bit. It's a song that speaks loudly to my soul in ways that most songs could never hope to, and seems to resonate with particular strength these days.
There are a bunch of great versions out there, and everybody's got their favorite. Mine's definitely the 6/2/03 version from The Verizon Ampitheater in SoCal. I'm partial because I was there, but it's a damn solid rendition:

Then again, there's the MSG 2000 version that Ed did by himself - it's gorgeous, especially at the end, when his throat just opens up....

Also, forgive me if this has been posted before, but I've never seen it. I don't know how many people have heard the original, but Steven Van Zandt wrote this song. Those who don't know that name from Springsteen's E Street Band may remember him as Silvio Dante from The Sopranos.

I don't know if this is the very first recording of the song, but it's something fans of this beautiful little gem need to have.

Enjoy.

I love this song. I really like the improv style from 2003. This thread has inspired me to find the best performance of this show, I remember hearing it on a bootleg and Eddie just screamed "Freedom" at the end, it sent shivers down my spine..

I'll let you know when I find it, and which boot it is.

Definitely a song I'm hoping to hear this June; especially given the fact that the war is dragging on and it's an election year. I loved the 9/28/04 Boston pre-show version.

I listened to every I Am A Patriot from 2003 to try and remember, and it was a toss up between this performance and July 3 in Boston. I lean towards this one, though, this is the craziest boot. I wish I had been at that show. :)

Isn't that "freedom" freaking EPIC? He could be mistaken for William Wallace with that one. :D
