rent time at a band practice space. It's usually not too expensive and you can probably make some contacts too.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I'm in the same boat. Played for 21 - 24 years. Currently in a town house.

Find a small store near you, and ask them if you can rent a part of their basement for $50 per month so you can play drums at night. It wont bother the neighbors since its just other stores. My old High School band used to be under a pizzaria.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

What about getting some space muffins to dampen the drums enough to play them in your apartment?

I don't have a problem with electronic drums... sure, not the best sound or feel available, but for the advantages they provide (space-efficient, low-noise, portable) they're okay. Better than nothing.

Beyond that, there are some products out there to get "silent" practicing with a real kit, i.e. muffle pads and/or "silent" drum heads. The idea of renting a practice space isn't bad, either. Even finding a friend with garage or basement space that you could borrow periodically would be an option.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • my moms fiance just got electric drums because of the same situation...hes been playing for about 30 years
he got the yahmaha ones and they do sound great but they arent gig worthy but for practice they are great

i dont know about your apartment situation but those silent drum heads sound good.

Are you in a band in the memphis area? If you are ever looking to jam I know of 2 guitarists, both PJ fans and your age (one being me), in Memphis that are always ready to play with a drummer. We both have been playing 5 years or so you might be a little ahead of us musically but we wont care if you dont.
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.
