I'm thinking of replacing the tubes in Fender Deville. I just don't really know the kinds of good tubes. Anyone?

There is a strong bias here toward Electro-Harmonix tubes (get it? bias?). Groove Tubes, Ruby Tubes, and Sovtek are all good, too. If you wanted some vintage tone, you could get some NOS (new old-stock) tubes from Phillips, JAN, etc. but I wouldn't see the point in a new amp like the DeVille.

So, if you want great tubes, go with EH. If you want good tubes for a good price, get Sovtek.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
  • check out http://www.tubestore.com they have a wide selection of tubes, and a explanation of each tubes tone. Eltro seem to be more bitey then say a groove tube or a sovtech. Also they match each tube so that you only have to bias your amp once. After that you just continue to buy from the same pile of tubes, and the amp will already be biased for that tube.

I would strongly suggest going to http://www.eurotubes.com and talking with bob. He's the man that can fix you up. Very, very knowledgeable and great to deal with. I'm using svelanta's(I can't remember how to spell that) that he recommended and tested in my hotrod deluxe and thier are great in my book. It's getting time for new tubes and that's where I'll be going back to.

I believe the tube set up in your deville is that same as my deluxe. A full set of tubes from Bob cost me 54 bucks, I think.
