I don't know much other than that I want to learn to play. I just went with a cheap acoustic Epiphone until I can for sure do this. I've been reading the board and learning lots of new stuff and appreciate all the help as unintentional as it may be. This will be a self taught journey so if you guys could recommend good starter books or online tutorials that would be sweet.

Hal Lenoard has some good tutorials.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

You gotta start somewhere, and any book with the basics will get you on the road. Sure, you'll start with 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' and 'Brown Eyed Girl', but once you learn the basic chords, you're off. Biggest thing, in my opinion, is learn how to read tablature, or tab. Once you can read tab, there are a million online resources to learn songs. Here are a couple:

    http://www.giventowail.com - PJ tabs galore
http://www.olga.net - Almost any song ever written
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

Like Mcready says, get a few chords into you first and enjoy. Learning to read some music is good, too. At least learn where the notes are on the neck now, or soon, and it will put you ahead of the game later. It's a pain to learn, but good to know. it's like inglish. Once you lern to speek inglish, it's alwaisr their!

Try to play some by ear, too, then you can sit down to a song and figure it out, When you do this, if you write music, or sit in with a band, you can learn to play what comes into your head.
It's good to mix it up some. Play some cover, but don't forget to find your own voice.
