hey what is the difference between a maplewood or rose wood fretbaord? What do you guys prefer? The 72 cutom reissue I am getting has an option of either. What do you suggest.

WHich is heavier/lighter more/less durable etc?

Thanks guys

maple is warmer (tone) and softer. Maple is harder and brighter. Niether is particularly better though I believe personally that maple lasts longer because of it's greater density. Tone is subjective. Basically most people choose on looks and for get about what the fretboard adds to your tone much moreso on acoustic guitars. I for one am a really big fan of ebony.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
  • Yes, ebony is supposed to be the best! I would go with rosewood if I had to chose between maple or rosewood. Its just preference.
    PJ + AIC = LoveThemBones
  • Rosewood, i dont play guitars with maple fretboards
