my buddy just gotta bass for xmas and he was wonderin whats the standard tuning for it, can anyone help me out?/

as i understand, depending on what strings you buy and how you setup the bass you could have the low string as the B or the high as a B
so (from low) B E A D G
or
E A D G B
i know the low B option is possible, not sure 100% about the high B option.

And if you play songs with a heavy guitar, like in Drop tuning then
DADG
But five stringers can down tune as well, but they usually tune it
AFGCG, or something like that, Korn does it that way
of course you can but he asked about standard tuning.
Correct... from low to high, that's standard 5-string tuning. Standard 4-string (as mentioned above) is E, A, D, G from low to high. Standard 6-string bass is B, E, A, D, G, B. 8- and 12-string basses are tuned in 2- and 3-string groups, respectively, in the same tuning as a 4-string, but with octaves (like a 12-string guitar).
