    from low to high.

    E A D G

same as the low four of a guitar.
  • ...forgot to mention that it is a 5 string....would that mean the fifth string is B

as i understand, depending on what strings you buy and how you setup the bass you could have the low string as the B or the high as a B

    so (from low) B E A D G

    or

    E A D G B

i know the low B option is possible, not sure 100% about the high B option.
  • Just cause you have a four string doesn't mean you can't tune it
    BEAD
And if you play songs with a heavy guitar, like in Drop tuning then
    DADG
But five stringers can down tune as well, but they usually tune it
AFGCG, or something like that, Korn does it that way

of course you can but he asked about standard tuning.
  • yeah standard tuning on a 5 string bass is B, E, A, D, G. trust me on that.

Correct... from low to high, that's standard 5-string tuning. Standard 4-string (as mentioned above) is E, A, D, G from low to high. Standard 6-string bass is B, E, A, D, G, B. 8- and 12-string basses are tuned in 2- and 3-string groups, respectively, in the same tuning as a 4-string, but with octaves (like a 12-string guitar).
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
