Seriously.

Sometimes, pearl jam take themselves too seriously.
Make a video like this and show the world you are still happy guys doing what you do best.

And songs like Marker In The Sand and Greendisease are kinda cheesy and lame -- no substance, all fluff.
Right some real lyrics like these guys (link at top) did, and sing them with passion.

Man i miss when lyrics really meant something, and the attitude matched. It really was revolutionary.

lol.

  • " ...and sing them with passion." That's a real good advice. Damn! Anybody ever thought about that opportunity!? Maybe you should join the PJ-Management. Or just ... keep on drinking.
  • Greendisease and Marker are cheesy? News to me.

I like the fact that PJ take themselves seriously. I wouldn't want them to become the new Offspring. If anything, Avocado didn't take itself seriously enough. 'Got me a Big Wave, ride me a Big Wave, etc. etc.'?

    Hey.
    Big Wave is pretty solid.
Its about the subliminity of surfing as connected to the evolution of the species and the arival of consciousness and then self actualization.

Big Wave is part of the new PJ wave (no pun intented) of writing what i see as a pyschedlic-conscieousness inspired interpretation of reality ... stuff like Cropduster an Big Wave where one subject in the song is deep and the other is simple, and they are connected cosmicaly ... and the song is focused on the nature of that relationship, playing words games with it. It really is psychedelic because it is fun, tangentaly related, recursive, folly and profundity combined like a siamese twin!

    Anyhow.
I think you need to go watch the video linked in the title post to see how far this concept can be taken.

    Breathtaking.

I like that Pearl Jam values originality and depth in their lyrics. The statement made by the song "that guys like watching attractive, scantily clad women frolic around on the beach" is less than "revolutionary". In fact is a bit obvious and overdone. (but i do understand that guys enjoy eye candy and it certainly has carved out it's niche in music)

Thinking, learning and understanding more about yourself and others through lyrics is fun. Fun doesn't always have to be equated with mindless, gratuitous actions.

I also think it speaks volumes that Pearl Jam has a massive contingency of male fans without resorting to "T&A" as a marketing ploy. As a female fan, I appreciate that.

Peace and remember these are only my opinions.
I wish a guy like Eddie, would like me.

I didn't say Big Wave wasn't solid, I like it, but it's not very deep. And it still bugs me that Ed doesn't sing 'I used to be A crustacean'.

Don't over analyze it. Pearl Jam will never please everyone. Just take it for what it is. There's more to life than Pearl Jam.
