bass timing question

ok so I've been told for a while to buy a metronome, so I did. but the thing is I don't really know what are good exercises to get the most use out of it, any tips?

    Set the metronome to 80 (I think) and play open notes (alternate strings to increase accuracy with playing on more than one string) exactly on time with the beat. It'll tighten your rythym.
    You can also vary the beats per minute, try a slow one for a challenge.
    Also do variations to improve your skill and stay in rythym such as:

    |---x---x-- -x---x---x---x-- -x---x-| <- Metronome
    |---0---0-0-0---0---0---0-0-0---0-| <- You

    Sometimes I just let the metronome be my drummer and play whatever I feel like. No matter what it will keep you in time.
  • Playing to cd's helps get you flowing with being in time.
