can anyone help me figure this shit out?

i unscrewed the four screws of teh jack plate\cover, thinking that the little connector pin piece (name?) would be naked \ visible \ easily accessible.

WRONG!

it's fukin' shielded with this huge hunk of gold!

i unscrew the back plate to see if i can get in behind the pots to access this ellusive little little piece of metal ...

NOPE!

there is this huge metal can shielding the entire compartment!

LIKE WHOA, MAN!

that's news to me ...
needless to say, i unscrewed this metal hunk, and still found, to my dismay, that the piece i needed to pull up (the piece that the guitar plug connects with, name?) is still completely covered by a big golden cylinder ! !! !

so how do i get to this piece of crap !?!

goddamnit.
it jiggles all over the place and sounds like a dying spring reverb!

grrr.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

  • It's a shield to keep the noise down. The metal shield should slide off the output jack. Then you can resolder the leads and slide it back on.

    I'm pretty sure! Good luck!

  • i didn't realize this was gonna involve solder.

i thougth it was just a metal contact that i had to bend out further?

    grrr.

once again proving, i can't play,
and i sure as hell can't work with electronics.

    2x grrr.

  • Actually, you may be right!
Look at the solder joints and if they're tight, then it just may be that the prongs of the jack spread apart too far. Bend'm back a little bit, and give them a spritz of tuner cleaner, too.
It's pretty common that the solder works loose, though. There's a lot of strain at that jack.

Tuner cleaner is the WD-40 of the electric guitar and amp world!
