  • For $300, I'll looking at a Agile LS2800 DLX! For the money, the guitar is pretty good! Bone nut, Figured or Flamed top, Mahagony body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard, trapezoid inlays, Alnico V pickups, Grover tuners! For someone who can't afford a Gibson, this is the way to go (or an pre-1982 Tokia Love Rocket)! Also, if you check ebay, some people still sell the Agile LS's with the original Les Paul horn and not the rounded horn that they make now.

Have you ever played an Agile? I've been watching their Explorers for quite a while, and for $280, they seem like a great deal. I just don't want to get a clunker... I could pick up an Epiphone for not a lot more.

Here's a page with the Agile stuff on eBay... most of them are Factory-direct.

...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

Tokai love rockets are brilliant. Perfect Gibson LP ripoffs. Yeah they are in the process of being sued at the moment.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

You mean Agile's getting sued? I could see that... maybe I should buy an Explorer now, before they go under...

Oh is that the company. Perhaps. Play one and see. I've only seen the LP's but they are fantastic copies.

I would LOVE to test-drive one, but there isn't a store within a day's drive that would carry them. In fact, I think most of their business is internet sales. Did you look at some of the guitars on that link I posted? They're pretty damned good LOOKING copies... I just worry about good PLAYING and good SOUNDING copies...

we'll duncan p/u's mahagony body and maple top. It's going to be damn close. Probably kills an epiphone just on the p/u's but I don't know how great the mahogony is. I'm not a big proponent of buying instruments sight unseen. I gotta have it in my hands

No kidding... it's the biggest leap of faith ever... forget Jesus, I believe in him a hell of a lot more than I believe in a guitar I never played... But it's so damned tempting. I'm looking at spending $220 just to rebuild my shitty LP knock-off.

Yeah, sorry... LoveThemBones posted about Agile guitars, and I've been curious about them for ages, so I got side-tracked.

As for beginner guitars and amps... you pay for what you get, and you get what you pay for. I'd save up for a Made-in-Mexico Fender or an Epiphone, if I was you... For $400-600, you can have a pretty good electric guitar. The cheap guitars are definitely cheap, so if you're serious, get something decent, at least. You don't want to spend $300 on a beginner guitar, and then get sick of it, want to replace it in 3 months. Get something you can keep for a while. I love my Mexican Fender Telecaster.

  • I have never tried an Agile, but I've heard good things from another forum. The reviews from harmony central don't look bad and the price isn't killer. I was planning on taking the chance and getting one for Christmas (for myself).

I thought the general consensus was save up and buy a better one. Just make sure it has a solid top. Washburns are fine but I prefer other brands.

In my experience it's always better to save and buy better. Even if you are just beginning.
