Guitar Setup Question

I have a question. What does it mean to have your quitar "set up". I've heard a lot about how you need to take your guitar in and have it "set up". What exactly does that mean?

It means getting the intonation set, the neck adjusted if necessary, and the action set. That's basically it. It can be pretty important, but it's not something you have to do immediately to be able to play your guitar. If you have the money, get it done. If you don't, wait till you do.

If you like to learn new things and do stuff for yourself find someone who knows how to do these things and learn how.

In lay terms, it means lowering your action (string height) to the lowest point possible without having fret buzz on any string and fret. Although some people prefer higher action for bending and such, most people get their guitars set up so they can get that nice low action.

A guitar tech doing a set up also makes sure your guitar is in tune all the way up and down the neck (intonation).

Every player should know how to do this stuff himself. A good guide for it:

Yeah, thanks! I guess I never really thought about it, but my guitar is fretting sharp so I guess I should have it done.
