books on amps and stomp boxes

Can anyone recomend some must haves?
It has come time for me to dig in deep and fully comprehend amps how they work and etc.....

for stompboxes, there is a book called "the stompbox" cookbook that explains the theory underneath diffferent effects and has schematics and circuit boards to make your own.

it's out of print but libraries should have it.

i know there are lots of good websites as well for both amp and effect theory but specific links escape my feeble brain at this time.
