I picked up my #2 from Mr. Scroeder last Friday.
He installed a bone nut, pigtail tailpeice, real studs, pigtail bushings, Timbucker double whites, NOS Bumble Bee's, RS super pots and I had the tuners swapped out for accurate ones and had the buttons replaced with Lou's.

This is what a Gibson Les Paul should sound like and for your viewing pleasure this is what a Les Paul should look like :)

wow, nice. Timbucker double whites look great, I tend to prefer black and white but that's just me. absolutely beautiful tops.

Yes, #1 has Voodoo 59's. I like them, but the Tim's just blow em away.

  • Where can you get these Timbuckers or hear a sample of them? I have been wanting to change out the PUP's in my Epi Les Paul and was wondering, after hearing you talk about these, if they might be a good fit for it.

    Thanks.

Tim White is a LPF member, but best thing to do is send him an email.
The current waiting period is 2 years!

I think $425 for the normal wait and $500 for a priority set.
Any set on Ebay is a good deal no matter what the price as these are the only pups I am aware of that actually increase the value of your guitar ;)

true, The funny thing is I'd have almost as much in My guitar as I did in my pickups :D

I think #2 is my favorite.

I am hesitant to touch My #1 as it just keeps increasing in value. It is going to be in the new Historic book as well :) The previous owner did everything I would do except for bumble bees and pots. I think #1 plays like a dream and the top is just killer in person, it is very "authentic" looking. #2 is my player now for sure, I am used to the slighty smaller neck and it weighs in just over 8lbs so it is light. The only thing I am missing in my rig right now is a killer P90 tone machine, but I hope to have that fixed shortly LOL.

The Tim's are just so great, I was playing on Sunday and I can't tell you how many people asked me about the guitar. Did it fool anyone? The tone sure did, it is woody like real PAF's and yet clear and articulate. Every note just blooms. I know why Tim has a 2 year wait and I can only imagine what will happen if he stops making them. Grab em while you can I say.

  • Nice looking guitars, JofZ ! Congratulations.

2 year wait for Timbuckers, eh?
    Hmmm,

    http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Pickups:_Kits/Humbucker_Kit.html

    http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?action=SERVE&sku=1462&ITEM=catalog/sku.html

Let’s see, about 5000+ wraps per pickup, that ‘s about 10000 wraps in 2 years.
That’s about 14 wraps per day, which is all I would have patience for
About a hundred bucks in parts,
    $4000 in beer

    Bingo!
    Bobbuckers!

    :D

I'd be better off just ordering some!

In reality, that's what the good PAF's were! Happy Accidents.

Actually, on my next order from Stew Mac, I'm going for that kit.
No wax potting for me! I want to make a Neil Young spec pickup. My friends did stage work and sound on his last few tours. One said that Neil's bridge in the old black Paul is so loose and microphonic that he could sing through the pickup on sound check!
I KNOW if I try my own, that's how they'll end up! :D

The 50's were nothing but happy accidents :)
Go for it, just don't get discouraged if you don't get what you are looking for the first try.
Old black has a mini humbucker and a PAF. It is a weird axe to say the least. There are a ton of the real reissues floating around Japan. The US got screwed on this one, there are a couple around. I'll find a pic and post it for you in a new thread so everyone can see it.

I'm an accident of the 50's! :D I'm pretty happy!

Man, if I ever got around to actually wrapping a pickup, I wouldn't even be trying find a sound,, I'd just try to get though that ordeal without breaking the wire or spilling coffee into it! :D
I don't think I'd have the patience to do that. I can build and fix almost any guitar, but that tiny wire bobbin thing would make me crazy!
I could hire my mom, though! She is a great seamstress. I bet I could hook the wire spool up to a sewing machine!
Actually, her aunt was one of the ladies wrapping pickups for Fender in the 50's. Too bad she isn't around!
