where was ten recorded? why does it sound like it was recorded in a garage? thank you for your help.

It was recorded by an engineer and producer who had most likely been recording metal or hard rock that was big in the late 80's...
Lots of BAD reverb. That's the answer right there.
Drums sound like crap, if nothing else.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.
