Les Paul Advice - Feedback

So it seems that out of the blue my Les Paul is giving off horrible feedback when I plug into into my amp. It's never done this before and the sound is completely distorted and breaks up when I strum, sometimes IO get no sound at all for a few seconds. I tried fiddling with the connections but nothing seems to be working.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Is it the pickups or the wiring? It happens no matter what setting the pickups are on.
Thanks!

2nd - switch cables (could it be a bad cable)??
3rd - are you running through any pedals that can be causing this??
4th - check out your guitars jack (it could be your input jack).
I'd recommend trying to eliminate all the easy things first before you start taking apart your guitar.

1. Yep, Strat works like a charm
2. Same cable used with the Strat and no problem
3. No pedals, straight to the amp
4. Input jack looks good to me, no loose wires or connections
I really wish it was one of these, but that's my luck

I actually tried that and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I'll give it another look though. I'm guessing that it has to be something with the wiring since neither of the pickups are working properly
