I always thought Jeff is playing some strange fender musicmaster bass here, but I have my doubts now. So, what the hell is he playing, he plays this on a lot !!

That's one of his Modulus Jazz basses... he's had them for years.

Well aware for sure. I just need to wait till the local store has one. I can usually get stuff there for about 15-20% lower then Musicians Friend there, when I do some wheeling and dealing.

Correction: It's a Modulus Jazz bass. Or rather, a "VJ" bass.

Jeff's are earlier models with swapped pickups.
Think you might be mixed up, thats jeffs (I'd call it a reversed t-bird body or something) e mod.
The given to wail site, still calls it a fender, but its an emod. Seen it on other sites also.

My question is the silk type material that is at the base and at the end of each string... do new strings come with that material on the strings ?...
I have a Fender Jazz bass special it is a MIJ fender and I don't play bass but it looks like fun
Bring it on cause i'm no victim
Yeah, get a decent set of strings, they'll have the cloth wrap. Fender strings are pretty good, D'Addario as well... I prefer GHS, but that's what I use on guitar, so...
here it is

it is like new ...other than the strings
Bring it on cause i'm no victim
It's a pretty nice bass... nothing to brag about, but some nice tones available there. Yeah, any decent string pack will come with the cloth wrap. With the size of the cable used to make bass strings, that's just how it's done.

I too am a GHS fan. I screwed up and tried some fender stainless, and I can't stand that Stainless "Tin sound" when I play.
So I had to scrap a new pack of strings and go back to my nickel coated Boomers.

The ones in the states don't come in sunburst, the Jap ones from last year did. I was hoping to go the sunburst route, but had to settle for the black one.

I know Jeff uses Modulus usually, but those are the Jazz "C" shape ones, and i couldnt find a jaguar shaped one - atleast through modulus site. I sebtled for the fac its probably a fender jaguar bass, but Fender's basses only comes in Hot Pure Red (matchin headstock), and Black. and has the Jazz bass pickguard one, while those two pics of jeff its the precission like pickguard, with jazz pickups. and jeff's comes in completely different color then Fender's site says they come in, jeff's as you can see is like a red-sunburst type thing (pardon my terminology still bit of a newbie in music world). So is Jeff's just a custom Jag from fender or somethin like that? like even his shape is bit different then the fender's jag (more dull edges).
I know all these things i stated are small little details lol, but its really been buggin to try and figure out what bass that is becuase it really is very sweet. I mean im not big into buyin a bass just becuase one of your favorite bass players has it, but im really diggin that bass.
Yeah I've been down that road, especially with that bass. I believe we have came to a conclusion that it's a emodulous version of a Silvertone bass
