seriously though.....what do people think? he went Mili Vanili on snl??? they're called Hammer ons and pull offs!
I agree... or like someone said in one of the youtube comments.. the snl guys tape the rehearsals, so it's feasible that they punched in a couple bass notes to cover any mistake he made at that point.
Whoa, chill bro... you know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion's here.
That's like one of those "Bigfoot" videos, where the taper claims to have finally proven their existence. I would bet my left-one that there is a logical, gear-related answer to this "question".
when his hand goes off the fretboard to adjust his hat, he's playing the strings. when his hand goes off the strings to adjust his cable, he's playing the fretboard.
when his hand goes off the fretboard to adjust his hat, he's playing the strings. when his hand goes off the strings to adjust his cable, he's playing the fretboard.

Maybe after the show went live, maybe they allowed Jeff to come back to play a few notes for the re-broadcast, OR the more likely scenario is that they took the REHEARSAL show's bass lick - and patched over the buzz and crackle of the LIVE show's bass problem. The only way to tell for sure is to look at an ORIGINAL TAPE from when this show FIRST aired LIVE (not when replayed).

Personally I think the most likely scenario is they cut in a few scenes from the rehearsal for whatever reason, ie: the audio is performed live but they've occasionally edited in some vision from the rehearsal.
