But I don't know anything about them. I play guitar, and I am hoping that they are just mini-guitars... am I right?
And if anyone here really KNOWS about ukes, any brands you suggest?

And before his first step... He's off again...

A friend of mine has one and she tried to show me how to play some stuff. It's extremely different from the guitar and I found it kind of frustrating...granted, I was only at it for an hour or so, but it was nothing like I really expected. I knew it only had four strings, but I also kind of thought it was closer to the guitar.

Oh my, they dropped the leash.
Morgan Freeman/Clint Eastwood 08' for President!
"Make our day"
seeing soon forget live kinda did it for me, was so cool yet funny at the same time
my dad has one n its sitting in the corner of my room at the mo, has been for a few weeks now
try to play a bit and im absolutely hopeless
also found a harmonica too and can just about play the begining of smile
LOL yes that is really bad but meh
I really wanna try and be able to play something else well other than drums
Yeah that would be something I want to know too.
Oscar Schmidt by Washburn makes some nice inexpensive ukes.
try the OU5 Koa. ( you can get it for around a $100 )
it one of thier more expensive ones, but is much nicer than the cheap $50 ones. Awesome everyday uke !!!
You can also find some decent LANIKAI ukes for cheap, but make sure to shop around for this brand , because they make some decent ukes but also make some real crap. They are the Hawaiian brand for people that dont want to pay alot for a good uke but also dont want to buy the $10 plastic ones at ABC stores. They have a huge quality range of ukes available.
now if you want to spend a little bit on something nice.
Try TANGI Ukes from Hawaii.
They are a mid-range to high quality Hawaiian made uke.
probably run you $150 to $300.
or the cream of the crop, KAMAKA ukes !!!
one of the best you can buy !!
run you $500 +
lastly MARTIN ukes.
they WERE the king of ukes, but I'm not sure now.
they make the S-O uke for around $300 ( but not good reviews on it )
or
the 5-k uke for $4200
Old vintage Martins and Kamakas are what real uke collectors try to collect.
depending on condition and age they can run from $500 to thousands !
and dont forget size !!
a small Soprano uke will cost much less than a large Tenor uke
I would suggest a concert size uke !! Most useful size to me !!
hope that helps some !
