Old Tones never die, you just re use them?

Just wondering what cool effects, or creative ideas you have read that past artist have done to alter there tone, or create a cool effect, that you have tried and reused.
I mostly play bass probably 75% of the time but in the studio I do a lot of guitar stuff with the guys I record with. Any hoot one thing that I did that I read that Hendrix used to do was to plug in two wahs in a row one all the way rolled up the other all the way rolled down. I found get gave a great tone for this Octave type solo I did on a song. Just sweet as can be.
Bass wise I have a tendancy to steal from Our Lady Peace and have used a tremolo pedal to create 1/8th notes in a song or two. I find that to be pretty cool
