Mixing

So what is everybodies trend on mixing songs these days? Lately I've been going down the road of mixing the levels in mono. Then switch to stereo and doing the pans, then some more minor level tweaks.

Still stuck in the seventies style mixing. Heavy lows, and mid highs, no real strong mids. Its so tuff for me to sacrifice my bass tone to bring it up in the mids.

But it still sounds good so thats all that matters in the long run.

  • i'm out of school, so no more recording class till september ;)

but i can tell you when we used Analog (which was most of the time.. alternative being MIDI) we recorded it all in mono and mixed down to 2 track stereo when all tracks were in.

    which was a bitch.

Live recordings ALWAYS came off way better.. i mean uncomparable.

We did those through a big mixer into the multitrack so we could get levels and balance in stereo and the difference in quality was incredible.
