Something to remember me by
Something freezing your hand
Something so you feel all grown up when you call my name
Oh, I'm falling down...
Oh, I'm falling...
I don't know when I'll be up
When I call, please remember
Frozen like stone, yeah
He's only flesh and blood
I'll be gone, yeah...
Just a memory passing like pages in a book
I'm falling down...
I'm falling... (2x)
I don't know if I'll get up
You're a boy... (3x)
I know why you're here
Can't guess your side
Oh no, the cry of a newborn child
Can't feel the heat
Of something fresh
Can somebody hide me
I cannot hold on... (2x)
I cannot hold on, child...

I think it could have been the best Pearl Jam song of all. It was only played once, live at Red Rocks 6-20-95 if I'm not mistaken. The song isn't lacking in lyrical quality, or musical quality, so one is left the impression that it was not added to an album or played again because of the extreme personal content.
This song is also known as Fallen Down, and isn't the best sound quality on the majority of the bootlegs you'd find it. I haven't seen anything in print on this song's meaning, but my understanding over the time is it about the death of Eddie Vedder's child.
I don't know if it was his wife Beth, but it's been hinted in the past that he wrote this song for the child he never knew due to an abortion. Although they ended the child's conception on their own accord, it does of course inevitably hit you hard. This perhaps was the emotional outpouring some odd years later.

After reading your message I had to take out a tape that had Falling Down from the Red Rocks show on it. (YouTube's video is also interesting.) Have not listened to it in a long time. I have to admit it is awesome. So sad at the end (...cannot apologize).
I know the only time anyone has ever heard OUT OF MY MIND was live...but...is that the ONLY time they every played that song? I also understand that it was a Dave A era song that was funky and awesome and part of the reason why Dave A was my fav drummer...but its sad that the band doesn't have the funk of Out of my mind and even Rats like it did back then. They still play rats but I don't feel it has the FUNK roots it did when it was originally created. Loved it live when I saw it recently though.
I just love to play out of my mind when I feel Out of my Mind and I wish they'd pull it out the vault.
I listen to this song time and time again on my MP3 player. It's severely underrated, so funky and danceable.

I think there's generally a good reason they haven't played these songs, though. How many songs can they be expected to memorize?

I totally agree!
They've never played Stupid Mop...of course, that would be kinda weird to do live...maybe play it over the speakers as they're walking in?
