yup another gain pedal. Worth listening anyway.

Love the glow yellow on black graphics and the 99 dollar price tag.

Oh and just because you freaking want this.

Radial just released a solid state series of their bones. http://www.proguitarshop.com/product.php?ProductID=1207&CategoryID=

Pedalboard friendly british distortion bliss and 2 channels to boot.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

  • Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't digging the Barber... kinda like a Blues Driver with a little more gain available. Looking at it, I was hoping for something closer to a really good Rat. Really, I think my Shannon OD does the same thing, only better.

The Radial stuff, however, was pretty cool. I listened to the demo clips of the London, the Texas, and the Fullerton. All three sounded pretty convincing. If I was building a pedalboard from scratch, I'd be tempted to buy a Texas and a London. Between the two, with their toggles and the option of cascading, you could achieve a lot of different sounds just using the footswitches.

Any idea where to find a really good Rat sound? I'd get a Keeley mod if he still had them... I know that's sort of a sore point for you, but...
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

i'm currently using one of these for my "marshally" distortion in lieu of a rat or whatever. tried an mxr distortion III as well and it's just flat and boring.

the "british" one. it's a touchy pedal but there are some great sounds in there. i pretty much need full EQ in a distortion pedal.

a blues driver for OD, a fabtone for teh metal tonez (haha, not really, just high gain but not metally as i have the treble turned completely down), and this thing for good crunch. seems to stack well too.

    that radial looks good too.

of course, with the pod, i can dial in whatever i want (usually the rat model) and then post EQ the hell out of it but i still really like to have stomps on the floor in front of me.

Yeah I agree the Barber is kind of another gain pedal in a crowded market.

I love the degree of flexibility and the sound of the radials though.

As for Rat pedals, there was a company called Vodka mods doing them and Beavis Audio Research I believe makes something similar and there is another Rat type called the Brown Rabbit out there.

If I were you, I think I'd try and find and old Rat 2 on ebay and see if it has the LM308 chip in it, if it does you could get it modded. Keeley is not doing new rats anymore but he will mod old ones for 55 dollars I think.

Honestly I think anyone who plays guitar should probably just keep a stash of a DS1, Rat, and SD1 or BD2 or some kind of other favorite OD. It's almost like standard backline equipment. You're going to have to have a marshall half stack and some type of Fender Deluxe and almost everyone is going to use one style of those pedals. I want a russian big muff with metal jacks a good switch and good pots too.

i got a hold of an old japanese SD-1 a while back for cheap. doesn't sound good in my current set-up but does sound great on it's own into the deluxe reverb.

    old black marshall shredmaster
    old black marshall bluesbreaker

add those to the list too.
  • The Barber is definately something to consider for a up and comer who is looking for a drive pedal. WIth that price...

I'd love to give it a try... one of these days, when I don't feel desperately close to broke, I'll have to make a deal with you to build me the Mighty Mouse and the Ram's Head/Large Beaver. Don't give up on me yet...
