I would assume (hope) some really smart people pioneered AI with the best intentions. Would that be fair?

These days, tho, I’m of the opinion that this is yet another use of technology that is going in unintended directions. Or maybe these were the intentions all along…

I have recently finished two novels dealing with AI. These were works of fiction but I think I learned a lot and it wasn’t necessarily good.

At Thanksgiving, I talked to a guy I see once a year and he told me his company is using AI to perform what were formerly entry level employee tasks. He said there is now no training in place for people who previously would have “moved up the ladder.”

I just reported a person selling blatantly fake stuff on ebay and was told “the items have not been removed. This determination was made by AI.” I’m not gonna lose sleep over the decision but I wonder how AI could arrive at this determination when I know, without a doubt, that this stuff is fake.

I think all the “tasks” that AI can do for us just make us a dumber and lazier people.

Is AI all about solving problems or is it really about making money? The ads from Microsoft, Amazon, etc. would want us to believe the former but I’m not so sure. If you have insights, pro or con, I’d love to hear them.

I said this before and we have a thread on AI already in AMT, you shoud check it out.

AI is being rammed down our throats whether we want it or not.  It's the ":future" and the same 8 companies are making money off of each other so its staying here for a while.

Once it kills someone or fires a missile unintended there won't be ANY regulations until that happens.
