It occurred to me that tons of really important stories around these topics don't get discussed here because there are so many of them that wouldn't have their own thread. 

The article that made me think this today is this story about a mass die off of elephant seals and other ocean mammals, from a strain of bird flu! First I've heard of it, but it sounds really serious to me, ecologically... I hope H5N1 doesn't cross over to people next.

I’ve had dogs throughout my life and the this just seems so weird but again the stratosphere of the mega rich is a world I want nothing to do with!

Definitely seems weird...but I do have 1 cat currently that I wish could live forever...

I'm about to lose my first pet, a 14-year-old dog I've had for 13 years. It's going to be sad and I, too, wish she could live forever. But even if I had the means, uh, no.

Reminds me of my grandparents that had at least four different dogs named "Skippy"...when one would die they would get another dog and name it Skippy. 

I always thought that was a great idea. Our dog named Puck died about 14 years ago. We didn't get a new dog until around four years ago and I wanted to name him Puck but got denied. I slip all the time and call him Puck.

on the one hand, people are dumb enough to feed their animals the same garbage they eat as a "treat" when they 100% fucking should not. Behavioral issues are the least of their worries now with feeding pets from the table. Like how many cat videos you see where the thing can barely move it's so fat. Dogs with dia-beetus. Just gross and cruel.
