I went to shows in '96, and '98, but didn't buy the posters. I didn't start to actively collect posters from the shows I attended until 2000. The hobby blew up between 2000-2003. It got crazy. Things have really settled down now. I don't know if the interest in the hobby is dying, or if it's cyclical. It doesn't really matter to me. I still love it and get a charge out of it. I love this band. I love the vintage items associated with their history. The posters from 1996 and 1998 are phenomenal markers of an amazing time as a fan. I'm super happy to be in a position now to add some of the gems I've coveted over the years. I've been taking full advantage of these Ames sales and it's been great.support The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

@More Coffee Sooooo, I checked this thread just because and read your post and it made do an ebay check on the poster from my first show, which has always been a bit pricey for me and whaddya know, I just bought it at a much lower price then I've ever seen. So, thanks for that!More Coffee said:I went to shows in '96, and '98, but didn't buy the posters. I didn't start to actively collect posters from the shows I attended until 2000. Crazy seeing the Oakland 1997 that I have selling for $3000....
A little history on that poster: PJ was the opener for the Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon tour...four nights (Nov 14, 15, 18, 19) --- 186,000 tickets sold for the four nights (Wikipedia). Only 300 PJ Ames posters made...if my math is correct, the people (at one poster per person) who could by a PJ poster represented 0.16% of the attendees. Add to the posters rarity the fact that it rained like hell on at least two of the nights (including the night that I purchased the poster--where I had to roll the poster - no tube - and keep it under my rain coat)....Full disclosure: I went to see Pearl Jam and watched the Rolling Stones
I sincerely doubt that 200 posters survived to be hung on walls or stored in tubes....Post edited by huntersthompson on0 -

Make a small copy and frame it up. It is a beauty. As per ames book EV didn't say a word when he saw him working on this and show posters pulled. Book said he was mad. Or perhaps he liked it so much, loss for words, he kept them all for friends and family. EVs silence leaves it open to interpretation. Maybe mermaid was a little more exposed when he saw it. Also show print runs were kind of small back then I think. Maybe they 'fell off the truck' on the way to the show. Maybe I'm overthinking this!GlowGirl said:

Anyway.
Great score!!

It's a really cool size too. I like how the older posters were all over the place regarding size. It definitely keeps things interesting when framing and displaying them. I remember seeing these sold from a card table setup along side of the parking area where the line (long) formed to enter the venue. It took forever to get in. I think my friend and I were walking in just as the band took the stage.support The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
