Hows The View From The Fence?
I have pondered this for awhile and want to let it breath.....does the band appear more silent to you in these times of authoritarianism? I was born in 19** I came into political consciousness under Bush Jr. Back then it seems, Eddie was far more outspoken. Every concert it seemed he was throwing shade at that admin. Wether is was to Bush or Cheney. Granted I was listening to bootlegs of that era a lot more and have not done so in this era under the Orange Man...and yes he's thrown in quite a few references in a lot of their material and I see the occasional bits of him siding with Bruce...but it feels different now. We are in far more dangerous times than under W arguably. I know the band continues to work behind the scenes for causes they believe in....but I am the only one that feels like they are not being as vocal about America's slow decay into fascism? I want to be wrong...but it feels like even they know how bad it has and will continue to get. In this age of unlimited access to what money goes where and to what cause...where can they place themselves?

Where can they place themselves? I feel like the band understands what they have published more than just about anyone. Maybe begin writing new songs that offer ideas and observations they have written about yet may be a good general idea on where they my try to take all that when it comes to the song writing.
As for political action? So many things could be done... It kind of depends on where ppl both fans and band members feel that they'd like their attention focused, and how physically active they decide to get on things.
It is a good thing to see people want to do things together, but the boldest, most radical ideas when it comes to political activities aren't always the best things to get involved in. I guess it really would depend on what kind of issue or issues you, & or others are thinking about.
If you want to help locally try getting something like a holiday food drive going or help some kids in poverty pay for school lunches.. or a toy drive..
Those are the simplest, quick things I can come up with.
As for telling fascists to stop being fascists in lyrics.. I don't really have many ideas on how to make that message to people be heard loudly & clearly enough.0 -
I do wonder if it's an age mellowing thing. At early stages they were far more outspoken, pro-choice on arm written on arm, drop in the park, ticketmaster battle, Bush JR criticism. I mean christ they were boo-ed when the did bush-leaguer places.
Maybe they've just softened? Most of them are dads. And they continue to do work wether publically or privately (as I do). I will take any blasting of the Orange Pedo from them any day and they've done it in songs...but I wanna hear more of it. Maybe my perspective is different as well being older...but things feel way more F-ed than they were under Bush JR. Look at what Bruce's or hell Green Day, they take a lot of pops at him.0
