The Dome could be the worst music venue I have ever attended. Class of 90'. Dead, U2, Floyd, Stones, worst sound ever. Then getting blown out the doors. The war memorial and the landmark were/are better.

My former neighbors in Toronto turned our back yard into an outdoor bar with live music. It's actually pretty cool!

I’ve heard rumors for the past couple of months that there would be a second major concert announced for the Sunday night after the Friday night AC/DC concert. This works, as it’s Labor Day weekend. Who knows, maybe it could be Pearl Jam and this person actually has some sort of inside intel?  Wishful thinking!

We know that Matt gave the guys plenty of lead time before announcing his departure. They have an LLC and there's all sorts of legal stuff to deal with on that end.

We know that Jeff hasn't been pleased with touring for a while. (He basically has said as much.)

My theory is that something happened to Matt during COVID (if not before) to make him want to hit the brakes. They probably could have toured a lot more.

We also can look at the number of shows and touring schedule since about 2011/2012. From after the European 2010 tour until Pittsburgh 2013, there really wasn't much.

2011 had PJ20, Canada and South America.

2012 had Europe in June and July, Made In America, Atlanta, Pensacola and Missoula.

2013 had the USA tour.

2014 had lots of shows.

2015 had 10 shows.

2016 was busy.

2017 had the Rock Hall induction. (It was very weird for this to be a slow year.2018 had South America, Europe and Home/Away

Here's where it gets weird:

2018 was SUPPOSED to have a new album. That, undoubtedly, would have had a ton of USA shows.

2019 was the year for the studio to work on Gigaton.

2020-2021 were COVID, except for those beach shows near the end of 2021.

2022 had lots.

2023 was tiny.

2024 had all sorts of stuff.

2025 had just a few shows.

To not tour Gigaton as much as one might have expected was a bit peculiar, was it not? (Opinions aside about the album, they probably could have done more.)

I'm not expecting them to go back to 2000 or 2003 levels, but hopefully a new drummer can at least take them back to 2013-2016 levels.

This band absolutely changed their touring habits around the time of 2011 & the PJ20 window.

Backspacer, then PJ20, then they got into the second 20 years.

Attribute that to whatever or whomever you will (I always thought it was Stone & Jeff), but maybe Matt had some pretty heavy influence on that as well. They did make him a full member of the band vs. touring member like Boom and Josh, so he had the seat at the table to help steer the ship.

This has been my thought too.  I think we’ll get better tours out of this!

I really have the feeling that Matt was unhappy even before 2019. Perhaps the lack of shows from Fenway 2018 to Sea, Hear, Now in 2021 made him sort of get the "Yeah, I don't need to do this, but I'll tour Gigaton feeling".

Somewhere around 2022/23, he got the "yeah, I'm out" feeling and then probably gave notice in 2023 or early 2024.

That series of weird happenings from 2018-2022 ...oh man what could have been. Then again, maybe it delayed Matt's departure. Had the 2018 album come out AND COVID not happening, maybe Matt leaves in 2021...or maybe he stays.

To me the slowdown had more of a 2015/2016 feel to it, when it began. Since they only did 10 shows in 2015, the 2016 US arena portion of the tour seemed sparse, that some in the band were dissatisfied with touring at that point and were convinced to add a handful of stadium shows to the end of the schedule to maximize the reach to fans. 24 shows seems like a lot now, but most bands doing an arena US tour it was comparably half that (arena portion of tour).

And with Matt stepping down it’s not like they’ve come  out with guns blazing after that  news …it’s more of the same. Almost no news and it looks like a minimum 18 month break in any touring and album releases. At this point it’s very understandable, it can’t be easy at this age, but ten years ago it seemed like, “cmon there aren’t many prime years left.”

The Bataclan attack also caused them to cancel that European 2016 summer tour. IIRC, the US spring tour was planned, but then we got Telluride and that other festival plus Wrigley and Fenway as a result of the attacks.

2017 was probably the "too much touring" factor plus maybe the beginnings of the aborted 2018 album.

I can definitely understand why they wouldn't want to go fast with a new drummer. Hopefully they rested up (and had interviews and tryouts) over the summer. I can see why they didn't announce anyone before the Rock Hall because they didn't want to distract from Soundgarden.

Hopefully we start to hear things about the new drummer in March or so. I don't have much hope before then. "Here's our new drummer and BTW, we've already started kicking ideas around." That'd be great for maybe a small tour in the vein of Vote For Change.

I was aiming for 40 by 40 in 2020, but we all know how that year went. I did manage to get to 45 by 45 on the Dark Matter tour. Arbitrary life goal attained!

I'm just a baby compared to many of you, but I have some sort of thingy...happening.

I used to know a PJ fan (I've long-since lost track of him) who was a student at the University of Illinois in 2003. He drove all over the country for concerts and I think he even saw PJ at Alpine Valley that year.

He told a great story of seeing String Cheese Incident at Alpine Valley with a hippie roommate.

He didn't see them in Champaign that year because the UofI arena had terrible sound, so said he.

If he was a touring member in 1998-2000, wouldn't he have been listed separately on the CDs like how Boom is? (At least I think Boom is listed as "with" or "also'" or such.)

When did they create the LLC? Wasn't that around 2005? Was Matt part of the LLC then?
