I've chosen this config. Since Acme carries them and I like thier work, I'm going to let them build it for me, since I have no shop in the apartment and really, I don't want this one all smuged up It's going to be #1 for a very long time.

I went with blender wiring. I think since I've been on them for so long Fralin Blues will be neck and middle and not Van Zandt's which have been recommended, I just know Fralin Blues are what I want I think.

bridge will be after much deliberation and asking of Brian who has played both and says they are damn similar...the Fralin Steel Pole 43 over the HDS90 because Acme carries them.

Wired in with the blender this should be a very versatile guitar.

other than that I'm looking for a Casino I think to put lollars in. Then I'll need a tweed.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

  • That's a pretty sick idea...isn't that similar to the s-1 switching system just using a knob instead of a button?

I love that sort of shit. My Tele has the 4-way swhitch, which of course isn't as fancy as the blender, but then again: my number of pups is pretty limited :)

That's what I'm hoping. I like all three on, and I like neck and bridge etc.

I think it's going to work out well. So maybe I can get that soon and get the new PW's tuning machines then it'll be ready for primetime.

the blender is great. i loved it when i had it in mine. now i just do master t/v and have one dead knob.

the S-1 is way more complex and, honestly, kind of unmanageable on the fly. for creating recording tones however...

    S-1 Switch Up:
    Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup in Parallel
    Position 3. Middle Pickup
Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup in Parallel
    Position 5. Neck Pickup

    S-1 Switch Down:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 2. Bridge Pickup in Parallel with Special Capacitor and in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 3. Bridge/Middle/Neck Pickups with Neck and Bridge Pickups in Parallel and in Series with Middle pickup
Position 4. Neck Pickup in Parallel with Special Capacitor and in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 5. Neck Pickup in Series with Middle Pickup
  • This is going to sound stupid because I know nothing of wiring and tubes but whats the difference between Parellel and in Series?...I kind of think I know what it is but I'm not sure, I want to know the right answer.

    parallel
    -
    -

    series
    --

series gives you a darker sound with more output. i think humbucker coils are usually in series.

parallel gives you the slightly out of phase thing that strats do with less output.

on a tele 4 way switch, the extra position is neck and bridge in series. it's a great sound and totally untele.

Yeah that's what I thought, I wonder why the s-1 doesnt offer the Neck/Bridge

I'm thinkin about wiring a push/pull knob into my Godin that turns the Bridge P/U on. Would this work?

basically there is no limitations to wiring, as long as they have an acceptable switch you can basically do anything. Im a huge fan of the S-1 Switching, and most of the times i find myself playing with it down all the time.

And how much do you think a mod like that would cost? Assuming it was just a push/pull pot?

the parters sell the harnesses. haven't found it as a new part yet. it's much more than a push pull.

edit: last one on the list seems to be a new switch.

um well the tone knob would probly run you 40-50 bucks for genuine fender. but you coudl pick up somethign similar liek allparts for much much cheaper. The going rate for guitar tech is anywhere between 30-70 bucks an hour pending on who and what they have. It wouldnt take more than 2 hours im sure so im geussing a grand total price of about 150-200 would be a reasonable geuss.

  • Acme's great, aren't they! It looks like a science lab in that shop. They're right near where I live.

I love those Fralins, Paco. They assemble things it so well, and the price is right, it's almost just as well to have them do the pickguard for you, like you're doing.
I tried the blender, but I never really bonded with it. It does get some new sounds, though.
The S-1 works great for me. I took my deluxe apart to see how it's wired with the noiseless pups and man,,,, I'm glad there are techs with good eyes and steady hands, because I sure wouldn't feel like tackling that one!
Like Harrison, I keep the button in most of the time. The first position with the button in is nice and quacky for me!

I absolutely love the S1 switching, so this is kind of my compromise. I play generally with the button down when I use those too.

Fralins are big and round and juicy, at least the ones I've played, I'm hoping these are similar.
