I've always liked the simple slab guitars, especially old melody makers, they sound great with humbucker mods,

This one would be freaking awesome with some Lollar P90's and better machine heads, I wouldn't feel bad about cutting it up either.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

that's true, if I were really serious, I'd probably go that route.

My next electric is going to be a semi or full hollowbody.

  • I want to take it to the bare minimum again even less than that!
Somebody just sent me that link for Leslie West and his one pickup Les Paul Jr and a few amps on ten. Definitely shows you that so much is in the fingers!

His tone is one of my favorites ever!

I'm not sure about those cedar necks on the Melody Maker, though. Generally a softer wood, although wood varies so much now it's amazing. I'm going to a big music store tonight where the Taylor guitar "on tour" people are, and I'll see if they have one in stock and check it out.

I'm thinking about this one and experiment with p-90's in it.

I'm checking out Taylors, too. Anybody thinking about one?,,,,, I'll preview it for you!

Any ideas on what you might be getting? I'm currently looking for something cheap, as I'm asking for a Custom Shop ES-345 for college graduation. Right now a Washburn HB-35 and Ibanez AS83 are at the top of my list. I've read that both are great guitars by any standards, not just compared to Gibson.
