Future Days request for Pittsburgh N2 - for Shane
We've been Pearl Jam fans from the beginning. In 2015, we lost our son Shane to a rare cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma, at just 18 months old after a brave year-long fight. During that time, Lightning Bolt was the soundtrack to every trip we made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for his treatments. Shane loved Getaway, but Future Days became the song that carried us through our darkest moments.
We started Shane’s Future Days Foundation to honor him and fund research for rare pediatric cancers. We're proud to partner with the Children’s Cancer Development Institute to push this vital work forward. We also have collaborated with Children's Hospital to development a music project. Shane’s Beats from the Heart is our legacy project that gives bereaved childhood cancer families a heartfelt keepsake—a recording of their child’s heartbeat synchronized to a meaningful song. Created in collaboration with a music therapist and the family, this unique tribute is a powerful duet symbolizing a lasting legacy of love.
